School is OUT!

Finally! after a long end, school finally ended. Now we can begin to concentrate on our move to Damascus, VA. Jon and Carole have been working nonstop for the last few months getting the house in order. We are trying to rent our place now and that should totally determine how fast we make the move. In the last few weeks, I have been rather cranky - but now much of the stress is off and its time to renew. My thoughts go out to the 5 people at Watauga High that lost their jobs on the last day of school. We lost 16 positions total and I'll be surprised if we don't lose more in the next year. All the talk about "don't worry" was just talk, as usual. I am happy for our choice to go to Damascus - it kind of insulates us from some of the financial world madness. Even if I lose my job, we are not hopeless - we will have a lot less expenses there because we are sharing everything. The experiment begins soon. We will set up a real website to chronicle the journey - I even bought the domain yesterday... nothing is there yet but it will be at sharesteading.com - it pretty much sums up what we are doing.

Katherine (who I work with) and her brother Keith are great paddlers and I tagged along with them down Wilson's creek. We had a blast - my shoulders are really sunburned in that PFD style. It was Dave's (old student....sold him my old boat - that's not it, however) first real paddle and he did amazing. Ah, time goes by. It was so nice to get thrashed around again:)
This is up on Bobcat hill - we go up there to look for tracks, bobcat scat, and to feed the horses. Adia loooooves horses.

Christmas Holidays

Here's how the Christmas break began... We had exam week which is not exactly the most fun week of them all, but I had finished my exams the week before so it wasn't too bad. The weather reports were saying that we were going to get a nice snow and it would start that last day - Friday. Well, Friday looked fine - we had a half day because only one exam had to be given. As the kids left, there was a nice rain falling. I thought this kind of stunk because I rode my bike to school - I was ready for cold, but I didn't relish a wet ride home. I did however, haul out the mountain bike because I hoped there would be a dusting of snow for my trail ride home. This will become a bit prophetic later. Well, we teachers move to the cafeteria for our Christmas luncheon - it was nice - great food. While there we notice that in the rain are a few snowflakes.... We are finally home. Well at least we aren't in the hospital. Ash got discharged last night and we headed to Greenville to meet up with Zoe and Adia who had been staying at MawMaw's . So I guess I should go back a few days and recap. Monday: I had gotten my stuff at school in order for a week and Ashley picked me up at school and we headed to Greenville to drop off the kids. Tuesday, early: Ash and I headed to Asheville for the induction. Ash was being induced due to the fact that she was diagnosed with a blood clot a few months ago and needed to time the blood thinners just right. But all has been well with the clot and up until Tuesday - life had pretty much returned to normal. We checked in and went up to our room - it was facing the mountains and was a pretty glorious sight - quite a plus for a hospital - we never closed the blinds.
